Venus Flytrap (in Foster)
August 13, 2026, will go down in my personal history as the best day of my life. That is when a Fishers Police Officer found me and brought me to the HSHC. It looked as if I had been in a fire. I had wounds on my face, nose, and front legs. Yes, I felt awful, but the medical staff at the shelter quickly gave me medicine to ease my pain. They provided lab work and treatment, which revealed that it was not a fire that caused my wounds, but an autoimmune disease. As a stray cat, no one had been taking care of me, and my future looked bleak. Thanks to HSHC, my wounds began to heal very well. I am a 6-year-old female DSH weighing 8.76 pounds, with a brown-and-black tabby-patterned coat. The medical staff was pleased to see that I had been spayed, so they knew someone had cared for me before. I had been over-grooming due to stress and skin irritation. I met with two adult potential adopters on August 27. I was super affectionate, loved being petted, and was a very friendly girl. They didn't adopt me, so on August 30, I moved to a foster home to recover and receive their TLC! Although I have not met the interviewer lady (IL), my foster parent (FP) has been in contact with her to report on my progress. He said that my wounds are healing nicely, my eye infection has cleared up, and my coat is looking very spiffy! I have not been overgrooming for quite a while. I have been allowed to explore their house, which has satisfied my curiosity! I have adjusted well, but I can still be skittish about sudden movements and loud noises. Sometimes I feel playful and let my FP pet me, but other times I just need to swat and run away. I'm still learning how to be a pet house cat. My foster home has a resident cat, and we are still trying to figure each other out. My favorite things so far are WINDOWS and catnip! Give me a window, and I'll be a happy camper all day long. I hope to be ready for a forever home soon. 9-30-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
