Planned Giving

Present & Future Giving Opportunities

As one of the only open admission, truly no-kill shelters in the country, the cost to provide daily and life-saving care continues to grow. Planning for the future is just as critical as paying the bills today. We hope you’ll consider one (or more) of the following vehicles by which to share your blessings and legacy with us so they’ll always get their second chance.

Legal Name: Humane Society for Hamilton County, Inc.
Address: 10501 Hague Rd., Fishers, IN 46038
Federal Tax ID (EIN) Number: 35-1610723

Remember to consult your legal, tax or financial advisor for support in making a planned gift.

Bequests & Estate Gifts

Leave a legacy of love by making a provision for HSHC in your will or estate plan. Your remarkable commitment to the future of our organization will be honored with in-shelter recognition as part of the Second Chance Society.

Language for your will or trust:
“I give and bequeath to the Humane Society for Hamilton County, Inc. located at 10501 Hague Rd., Fishers, IN 46038, in the sum of ___ dollars ($) or ___ percent (%) of my estate, to be used for such uses and purposes as its governing body shall deem appropriate.”

Notify us of your intent to give so we can thank you during your lifetime.

Operating Endowment

Operating endowment gifts provide an endless source of support and are pooled to earn annual interest. The income is spent for current needs while the principal remains untouched. At this time, HSHC does not have an operating endowment. It is absolutely critical that we establish an endowment to sustain the bright future we’ve worked so hard to build.

There is a naming opportunity for the first lead gift of $500,000 or more that helps us establish the endowment.

Gifts can be made in installments. Notify us of future donations at: developmentdirector@hamiltonhumane.com

Stock Transfers

Avoid capital gains through a gift of highly appreciated stock while taking a full value deduction on your tax returns.

IRA Rollovers

If you are 70 1/2 or older, making an IRA Charitable Rollover Gift is a wonderful way to support HSHC’s lifesaving efforts. Make a gift from your IRA of up to $100,000 per year — tax-free — while satisfying your IRA required minimum distributions.

This giving option is a direct contribution made from your traditional or Roth IRA to a public charity like HSHC, and it’s a great option if you have significant assets in your IRA or you don’t normally itemize your charitable deductions.

Trusts

Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs)

Different types of valuable assets may be sold through a charitable remainder trust to provide payments for life – or a period up to 20 years – to the creator of the trust. When the trust later terminates, the trust assets can be used to benefit the Humane Society for Hamilton County.

Generally, the sale of valuable assets through a CRT delays and sometimes eliminates the capital gains tax on any appreciation and reduces or avoids estate and gift taxes.

Lead Trusts

Valuable assets may be put in a trust that provides an annual payout to one or more charities for the term of the trust. At the end of the term, the remaining property in the trust is distributed to family members of the creator’s family.

Life Insurance

You can name the Humane Society for Hamilton County as a full, partial or contingent beneficiary of any life insurance policy or you can donate a life insurance policy that is no longer needed outright so that HSHC receives the current cash value.

Please request a beneficiary form from your insurance carrier to make a gift of life insurance.
