Wendy
I know you couldn't guess my age unless you read my cage card. Though I look about 3, I am actually 10-years-old. I have an attractive white-and-grey short-haired coat, a bubblegum-pink nose, and a small grey beauty mark on my lip. My owner surrendered me to the HSHC on August 27, but I just became adoptable on October 21. I lived with my owners for 9 years. I always got along well with my family, but things changed in the last year. I was crazy in love with all three family members, but I started overreacting when I was touched, surprised, or startled. The son is now 14, and I have been with him since he was 5. I would sleep with him because he was my person.
I don't understand why I began hissing, growling, or batting at the people I loved the most. The medical staff ran many tests to see if my health was the cause. I may have some arthritis. It should be noted that I was never spayed. Perhaps my hormones have gotten the best of me. I also tested positive for a UTI, which can be so painful that my tolerance might be affected. The HSHC staff feels that I will need a lengthy, gradual introduction to my new home and family. At my age, I may be less tolerant of being petted, or even touched. I will do best in a calm, low-traffic home with patient adopters who can "read" my body language. Interactive play sessions and calming aids may help me adjust to new people, animals, and experiences. When the interviewer lady (IL) visited, I sniffed her thoroughly before letting her pet my head and chin. I stared at her before I let her gently run her hand down my back. Once I was finished with her attention, I made myself into a loaf and shut my eyes. 10-26-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
