Description Mavis (in Foster)
Mavis' Compatibility:
Dogs – Born to be an only child
Cats – Not a fan of felines
Kids – Yes, all ages

Meet Mavis, a bulldog girl with a serious face, a soft heart, and a fish toy she carries with her everywhere she goes. What Mavis is looking for is the rarest kind of love, the kind that comes without conditions and takes her exactly as she is, because Mavis has bladder cancer. In a lot of places, a diagnosis like hers is where the story quietly ends. A dog like Mavis never makes it to a page like this one. We believe something different here, that a life does not stop being worth living just because we cannot count the days left in it, and this girl is not done yet.

Right now, she is comfortable, she is happy, and she is thriving in her foster home, treating every single day like it is the best one yet. She knows sit and shake, she trots along beautifully on a leash, and toys are her whole world. Most dogs here cannot keep stuffies in their kennels around the clock, because without constant monitoring the risk of swallowing a piece is very real. Mavis gets to keep hers, because they bring her so much comfort and she takes such good care of them. The second you hand her a toy, that serious face disappears completely and she is pure joy. Our groomer figured she might be a handful in the bath, and instead Mavis brought her fish along for moral support and let herself be blow dried like an absolute queen.

What Mavis needs now is someone to give her the ending she deserves. A soft couch, a full toy basket, a person to be her whole world for whatever time she has, be it short or long. She will spend every day of it adoring you right back. This is a rare and beautiful thing you can do, to open your home to a girl like her and fill her days with more love than most dogs get in a lifetime.

If that is a kind of love you have in you, reach out to HSHC and ask about Mavis. Our adoptions team will walk you through her care completely. Not every dog gets a chapter like this. Let's give Mavis hers.

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?

You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
