Jelly Bean
If you're starting to feel the downside of getting older, I hear you! I am nearly 8 1/2 years old, and I have lived with my owner for eight years. But he surrendered me to the HSHC on September 17 because he could not take care of me. You see, I've been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. This is why I am so skinny (5.6 pounds), and my appetite tends to fluctuate. It affects my metabolism, body temperature, and blood pressure. Signs that my thyroid may not be under control may include weight loss, excessive thirst, increased urination, hyperactivity, an unkempt appearance, panting, diarrhea, and increased shedding. The medical staff has taken good care of me, provided my medication, and I'm feeling much better.
I am a spayed female DSH, coal-black with a little white spot on my chest. I use my litter box very well. I've lived with and gotten along with 2 large breed dogs. My owner reports that I am a skilled napper and am a mellow girl. Whenever the interviewer lady (IL) visits, I greet her with little chirps and put my head in her hands. I give her head butts and encourage her to pet me all over. I roll to my side so she can rub my chin and cheeks, and I make "air biscuits" while purring. She always tells me I am a sweetheart and I deserve a loving home that will provide me with TLC, my medicine, and lots of cuddles. The IL complimented my silky-soft coat, even though she could feel every bone in my body. I struggle to eat dry food, as I tend to spill it everywhere. I prefer wet food and crunchy treats! Please don't let my illness prevent you from offering me a forever home. The good news is that this disease is highly manageable and can be controlled with proper veterinary care. I'd love to find my home in time for Thanksgiving, because I am very thankful for my life! 11-2-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
