You may have read my sister Bow's story, and mine is pretty much a duplicate. I am 5-years-old with an attractive blend of Calico colors with tabby markings. Bow and I were raised together for four years, having the whole second floor to ourselves and alone for up to 10 hours while our owner was at work. We never had the appropriate interactive play with our owner and did not receive lessons in being social from our mother. Our mom was our owner's mother's cat, if you can follow that sentence. We never developed a loving relationship with each other or with our owner. We were surrendered to the HSHC on April 19, a terrifying event! Moving into the cattery was so frightening that we avoided any contact with the staff or volunteers. I was recently spayed in May and am currently eating Hills C/D diet. Because I was so unhappy, the staff decided I needed to live in a foster home where I might develop my confidence and courage. On July 13, I moved in with my foster mom (FM), and life has improved 100%! Here is a quote from FM: Every day she takes us by surprise with her progress, whether it's purrs, trills and slow blinks, requesting pets, wanting to come snuggle at our sides, or placing a paw on our laps. She's an absolute sweetheart who wants to love and is just a bit scared – but is definitely warming up faster than we expected.
My litter box skills are absolutely perfect with 0 accidents. Initially, I was cautious but always interested in the family and wanted to be with them. I am shy but willing to play if you take the time to interact with me. Just remember, I will hiss if I'm scared and I'm still very cautious. But once I trust you and you give me gentle pets, I become very friendly. I am gradually seeing the advantages of becoming a lap cat. FM thinks I have the potential to be a cuddler as time goes on. I've become an expert at demonstrating slow blinks! Once you begin petting me, I can never get enough. I will never be the one to end a petting session. I've even learned that I love to sleep by FM in bed. I believe my courage and willingness to be out with my foster family have truly improved. I may still feel cautious, but life is looking UP! Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
