Description Ash (at Smitten Kitten)
Ash
Hello there! Why don't you take a seat so I can sit on your lap? I've been known to pick out a person and sit on them all afternoon! I arrived at the HSHC along with 9 other cats from another shelter on July 21. My medical exam revealed that I am a healthy 5-year-old black-and-white DSH boy, already neutered and excited to have a fresh start. Five days after checking into the HSHC, I was adopted. Yay! But I was returned two days later. Boo. I wish I could have told them that it often takes a cat weeks or months to adjust to a new home, people, and routines. But I figure the right person or family is out there just waiting to find me. The best thing happened on August 7! I moved over to the Smitten Kitten Cat Cafe (SKCC) to live in their wonderful big room with a huge tree to climb, lots of cubbies to hide in, enormous windows, tons of fun toys, and plenty of food and litter boxes for all of the cats living there. I get to meet new people every day. When the interviewer lady (IL) stopped by, I was the first to greet her and give her hand a little lick. That was all it took to make her my friend. When I first arrived, I was shy, but I have become more courageous each week.
I get along with all the cats, and I've made a very good impression on all the staff. The only thing that worries me is that when people find out I am FIV-positive, they may ignore me. FIV is a virus found only in cats that can lower a cat's immune system. I can live a long, happy life, even with FIV-negative cats, with regular vet visits, a healthy diet, and an indoor-only lifestyle. I hope people realize that FIV should not make people avoid adopting me. The IL told me not to worry because she had an FIV-positive cat who lived to be 17 and was the joy of her life! Please consider adding me to your family tree! 8-25-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?

You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
