Theo James (in Foster)
Description Theo James (in Foster)
As you can see in my photographs, I am a handsome fellow with a DSH coat of brown-and-black tabby markings combined with snowy white. I wear a large white bib that contrasts nicely with my green eyes. In August 2020, I was one of five 1-month-old kittens brought to the HSHC as part of a stray litter. I was adopted in October and lived with my owner until July 2026. My owner said she was allergic to me, so I began my second stay with the HSHC. I am now 6-years-old, 14.7 pounds, and already neutered. I love my family; I love climbing into laps and sleeping with you at night. I have great litter box habits and have used many types of boxes without issue. My owner said I warm up quickly to new people and am "super cuddly." I slept with the kids (14 and up) and let them pick me up and even dress me up in costumes. I love playing with string toys and will play with them as long as you want. The thing is, I lived with another cat at home. I wanted her to play with me, but she was not interested. Even when I pounced on her to invite her to tumble around together, she would run away. This was very disappointing.
Being constantly rejected was stressful. Some cats develop bladder inflammation from stressful situations. This is very painful, so the HSHC began feeding me Hill's C/D, a diet to promote a healthy urinary tract and bladder. In August, the cattery staff noticed the tip of my tail bleeding. The medical staff investigated what was causing this and discovered that I probably have feline hyperesthesia syndrome (FHS), which is also called "twitchy cat syndrome". This causes increased skin sensitivity. A cat may react in pain when petted, showing symptoms such as twitching skin, dilated pupils, drooling, yowling, tail chasing, and even biting itself. I had been chomping on my own tail! I was given medication for pain relief and to reduce anxiety and stress. Living in the shelter continued to be nerve-wracking for me, so I was sent to live in a foster home on September 6. My foster mom (FM) told the interviewer (IL) that I am settling into the routine, which is good news. However, she thinks I am not comfortable with our resident dog and cat. I turned into a giant puffball to show my dominance and/or fear. When I use the litter box, the other cat avoids using it. So we are continuing to develop a rapport with each other. My forever family must give me a small, safe space with everything I need, so that I can stay there while I get accustomed to a new home. I will need a lengthy introduction to any 4-legged family members. The HSHC staff will provide you with methods to help me transition successfully to your home. I want to find a patient, understanding person who can help me manage my sensitivity. 10-12-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?

You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
