Simba Dee
Hey there! I am excited for the chance to have my story told by the interviewer lady (IL). I was surrendered to the HSHC on July 26 because I fell out with the other resident cats and the Bloodhound. I got along just fine with the Newfoundland, but the Bloodhound had way too much energy. A friend gave me to my owner about 5 years ago. At some point, my owner had my front paws declawed. Yikes, I regret that decision! I am an 8-year-old DMH male, neutered, with an orange-and-white coat. I have a long white stripe from my chin to my belly, and all four feet are snowy white. I weigh 12.2 pounds, and my coat is very fluffy. I admit to a few little quirks my owner didn't like. I have some body sensitivity, which means if you pet me anywhere other than my head, I will react with anxiety by hissing, growling, or nipping. I know this is daunting, but I've had bad experiences with being handled uncomfortably in the past. To feel safe, secure, and comfortable, my boundaries must be respected. I became extremely close to my adult owner and did not want to interact with anyone else. I will benefit from having a small, safe space with everything I need where I can gradually adjust to the new place and people. Because I can become overstimulated when dealing with children, I must go to a home where everyone is 16 and older. I am also a scaredy-cat when it comes to Veterinarian visits. Of course, I remember the very painful declawing surgery, so any medical procedure gives me PTSD! Having the tips of my toes cut off has made it painful to use my litter box. I need soft litter, a low-entrance litter box, and possibly pain management. I still love chasing toys on the end of a fishing pole, laser pointers, and hiding in cat tunnels. On September 5, I moved into the Cattery Manager's office. I was pretty grouchy for a few days, but now I am very well behaved, enjoying attention, rubbing against people's legs, and feeling friendly. I use the litter box very well. The interviewer lady (IL) spent some time with me, and I went right up to her and gave her a sniff. I let her pet my head, the back of my neck, and my ears. I closed my eyes and started to purr, which made the IL smile. My future owner will need to be familiar with shy cats, patient as I adjust to a new home, and crazy about orange-and-white tabby cats. 10-13-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
