I first laid eyes on the HSHC on October 24, 2025. I was a stray male cat with a predominantly orange coat, which is probably the reason I was named October. I think it is a very appropriate name. I was adopted in January 2026 and lived with my owner for six months. Because he is moving to Africa and cannot afford the health certificate and costs to move me, I am now back at the HSHC waiting for YOU to adopt me! I am 5-years, 8-months old, already neutered, and an expert at using the litter box. My owner reported that I become very kitten-like when he initiates a play session. I have lived with kids aged 12, 14, and 16 years. I really don't like kids 12 years or younger. They try to pick me up, and all I want to do is run away and hide. My owner has tried to give me a bath! Big mistake-I hated it! I am very well-behaved during trips to the Veterinarian. I am not a picky eater, and I'm not particular about the types of cat litter I use. I LOVE turkey lunch meat, but I HATE all other people food. Yuck. Canned cat food with gravy is my favorite. The interviewer lady (IL) told me she thinks that I am extraordinarily handsome, and that I am a tall drink of water. I am not just another pretty face; I am also friendly, affectionate, and curious. I showed the IL that I liked her by giving her nose kisses, rubbing my head against hers, and accepting her pets. However, it is important to me that you understand I can become overstimulated by pets and affection. Once I have had enough, I will give you signals that I need you to stop. These signals may be as subtle as tail flicking, ears flattening out like airplane wings, or dilated pupils. For this reason, the HSHC recommends that I be placed in a home with children 12 and older, who can understand my body language. Sometimes life can be a bit stressful, and I will adjust more successfully to my new home if I have a small safe space to go when I feel overwhelmed. Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
