I just learned that I will be returning to the HSHC from my wonderful stay in a foster home. My foster mom (FM) has been instrumental in helping me cope with the shock of being surrendered to the shelter on July 2, after living with my owner all my life. I am a 12-year-old, DSH, spayed female, Tortoiseshell cat. For those who don't know, Tortoiseshell means my coat is a jumbled-up mix of orange and black. Very attractive, I think. My owner is moving and thought I would find a new home at the HSHC. He reported that I have always been an outgoing cat who didn't hide or have behavior concerns. I loved sitting on the couch with my owners and loved chin, ear, head, and back scratches. In the past, I have coexisted with a cat and a dog. I love playing with toys, but especially the ring from a milk jug. Catnip makes me even more mellow than I usually am. But I think he forgot that I find change to be frightening! When I first arrived, I was so fearful of the new place, people, and situations that I reacted by hissing, swatting, and trying to run away. It took me a while, but I gradually warmed up. Medical tests revealed I had painful urinary crystals. I am now eating Hill's C/D Urinary prescription diet to promote better urinary health, and it is working! They also found that both of my eyes are cloudy. I was examined by a veterinarian and diagnosed with corneal symblepharon secondary to corneal ulcers. Though it sounds scary, it doesn't hurt and doesn't require any treatment. It does mean that my vision is somewhat reduced. I moved to my foster home on August 18, and my life really began to improve. I have a "Senior Cat" litter box, which is very low to the ground, so it is easy to enter. FM says I will need plenty of time to learn my surroundings. However, she also reports that I am incredibly sweet, with a tiny little meow. I enjoy rubbing myself all over her. I have relished the time I spend with the little dogs in the house. FM recommends that I find a quiet home with a patient "cat lover" to bring out my loving personality. 9-27-26
