Sammy Gene
(Needs a Foster)

I believe in chemistry, that is, chemistry between an animal and its person. I have lived with my owner since I was a kitten, 4 years ago, and although I was fond of her, I do not think she "got me". I am a loveable fellow, but I'm easily overstimulated-just think of me as having ADHD, the feline version. I need a human in my life who understands a cat's body language and can read the rather subtle signs that I'm getting wound up. My owner didn't speak feline, so she didn't know how to live with me. I'm not mad. We just had a communication failure. I was surrendered to the HSHC on March 27. The medical staff noted that I was a bit nervous during my examination, but I was much calmer when they didn't try covering me with a towel. As a matter of fact, on May 20, I was very affectionate and rubbed my head on the medical person's hands so she'd pet me. I gave her many intense head butts, and was in very good spirits. I was moved into a Roaming Room where I could unwind, relax, and feel at peace. Everyone here is fluent in cat body language, so I don't have to worry about being misunderstood. The HSHC staff have not observed any of the overly reactive behaviors that my owner described. The interviewer lady (IL) has spent quite a bit of time visiting me, going slow, and allowing me to approach her. She is totally in love with me! She tells me I am such a handsome orange-and-white Tabby boy, with an angelic face. On the first visit, I was snug in my Kitty Kasa, and I sniffed her finger, but I didn't get out to see her. But I did not hiss or show any anxiety. The next visit had me slowly coming out of my Kasa to sniff her and let her pet me. I was very interested in having her pet me affectionately, and I repeatedly rubbed against her. I loved having my chin and ears rubbed. On the latest visit, I was quicker to leave my hidey spot and request some attention. The IL thinks I am a very sweet-natured cat who needs an understanding, cat-savvy owner who can provide me with interactive playtime, a quiet place to retreat, and children over the age of 16. I am easily startled by big noises and tend to run and hide when things get loud. So a predictable household would be ideal. I have excellent litter-box manners, and I am already neutered. I enjoy wet food, especially Sheba Chunks, and every cat treat I've been given. I say "no thank you" to people food, except for Dumdum suckers! I really go for them. Please come and meet me! 5-29-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
