Poppy
(Needs a Foster)

On June 4, 2019, I was one of three stray kittens brought to the shelter. I was adopted by a dear lady. We made each other very happy. We were quite satisfied being just the two of us. My owner always told me I was a pretty girl, with a snowy white coat and brown tabby markings. There were no other animals, and few visitors. I am now 7-years-old. Due to my owner's failing health, I was returned to HSHC on March 11, 2026. The only human I felt safe with, trusted, and was devoted to was my lady. She called me her very affectionate girl. I loved lying on her lap and basking in her attention. I felt comfortable letting her pick me up and carry me around the house. I always liked cuddling into blankets with my owner more than playing with toys. Because I never socialized with other people, I was fearful of anyone but my lady. When the 5 and 8-year-old children visited, I made sure to hide until they left. Going to the veterinarian was scary for me. When people move too quickly into my space, I might hiss or swat to let them know I'm uncomfortable. Being a very civilized cat, I always use my litter box. At some point, my front paws were declawed. Being overweight made my feet painful. My owner fed me lots of human food, so I got used to snacking on whatever food I could. Since April 20, I have lost 2 pounds, dropping from 18.2 to 16.28 pounds! Because my world was turned upside down when I lost my lady, I have experienced much sadness and confusion. I have been working hard to build my confidence and trust with new people. My greatest wish is to find someone who understands my feelings of loss and would like to offer me a soft place to land. If you have the patience and kindness to help a timid cat heal, please consider adopting me and giving me the loving home I need. I am ready to meet someone who will understand me and help me be happy again. 5-26-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
