Artemis
Artemis is a perfectly good name, and I have had it all of my 13-years on the planet. She's the goddess of the hunt, and I'm 100% male (well, except for that little neutering process), big and brawny. I know I need to lose weight, but since I was surrendered to the HSHC on May 3, 2026, I've gone down from 17.9 lbs to 17.4 lbs. I was as shocked as you are to hear that a 13-year-old pet would be dropped off at the shelter. I was very quiet during my medical exam and unsure of what would happen. Happily, it turns out that I have a nice little 2-room apartment, a bed and a bath, and room + maid service. I could use a bit more space to stretch out in, but it is cozy. The folks here like me and say I am a sweet, old gentleman. The other day, one of the Cattery Specialists woke me from a nap, and I pulled myself out of the Kasa to receive some petting, chin scratches, and head rubs. I met the interviewer (IL), and she was quite impressed by my friendly, sweet-natured personality, my hefty size, and my white-and-black coat. In 2017, I spent a two-week hospital stay for a urinary blockage. During that time, the doctor discovered I have reduced kidney function, likely congenital. I'm not complaining, just giving you the facts. My life has been full of ups and downs. My best friend, a female cat, passed away a year ago. We were very close, and I miss her every day. It seems that stressful situations can make me ill. The HSHC staff feel that I would do best in a calm, quiet home with little foot traffic and a predictable routine. So I went to stay in a foster home on June 26. My foster dad (FD) has seen a good deal of progress since I joined his household. I am calm and social with FD. I love being brushed; I enjoy feather toys and especially catnip! I will sit with him while he works and when he chills on the sofa. I admit that I am a real chatterbox when I get hungry; I am a regular Chatty Catty. I have never shown any bad behaviors. At first, I was very timid and spent my time hiding behind a chair. Now I will come out when he enters my room. I love a quiet environment. If I get frightened, I will hide in the cubby at the bottom of the cat tree. Currently, I have the whole house to roam around. I sit or sleep as close as I can to my FD. And I ALWAYS use my litterbox. FD noticed that I can't seem to jump up. When I want to be on the couch, I essentially pull myself up. My weight could be the reason jumping is too taxing. My new owner will need to give me a small, self-contained space with everything I need, and be patient as I settle in. I will likely need extra time to adjust to a new environment and feel comfortable. My ideal adopter will be understanding, patient, and willing to let me adapt at my own pace. 8-3-26
