Squirt
I am originally from Florida, but I was such a young kitten that I don't remember the palm trees or warm winters. My mom was my owner's mother's cat, and when I was born, they decided to keep me. My owner reported that I love being held in any position, stretching out, sneaking out when the dog goes out, cuddling and playing with the dog, and playing fetch with my spring toys. I am a very affectionate, friendly cat who likes meeting new people and does not hide. I was surrendered to the HSHC in April because my owner was moving back to Florida with people who are allergic to cats. So I was adopted this past June, but this owner returned me to the shelter in August. I am a 4-year-old neutered male with a black-and-white tuxedo coat. In the past, I never had any litter box issues. I was adopted in June to an owner who had a resident cat. She tried introducing us over a period of two weeks. The problem was that this cat had a higher energy level and would jump at me, trying to get me to play with him. Even though I would hiss to let him know to knock it off, he wouldn't stop. Finally, I had to tussle with him to teach him to respect me. This is why I was returned. The HSHC recommends slow introductions to other 4-legged family members. Start with scent swapping, then barrier gates so we can see each other, and eventually play with us so the other cat sees it. Each step should take at least 3 to 5 weeks before moving to the next level. Humans need to be mindful of a cat's nonverbal body language. If you see flat "airplane ears", a swishing tail, or large, dilated pupils, these are indications that I need to be left alone. My medical exam revealed I had a UTI in September, which made urination very painful. Medication has resolved that problem. I moved into a Condo in Cattery 1 on September 13. The interviewer lady (IL) visited me the other day, and I immediately approached her with friendly head butts and nose kisses. I'm a sociable kind of guy. I rubbed against her hands, arms, and even her notebook! I started purring to beat the band. I sniffed everything I touched, including her hair and cheeks. The IL says that if you are good at reading a cat's body language, you should have no trouble falling in love with me. She thought I was a real keeper! 10-7-26
