I am named after a celebratory drink humans enjoy on happy occasions-what a providential name! February 4 was a day I'll celebrate forever; it's when I was found as a stray and brought to HSHC. I was someone's pet once, already spayed. Like many cats outside, I was thought to be gone forever. No one came for me. The medical staff pronounced me a healthy girl, about 2 or 3 years old. I'm nearly solid black, with some stray white hairs on my chest. Because I was shy, on February 14, I went to a foster home to help me relax. I love my foster mom (FM). She knows what it's like to be in a new place with new people. She told the interviewer (IL) I'm very affectionate once I get to know you. It took three weeks to feel comfortable. Soon, I explored my room while FM sat nearby. I spent time rubbing my face and body on everything, leaving my scent. She's also pleased with how well I use the litter box. On February 19, FM was delighted when I nuzzled her hand and let her pet me. The next day, I shoved my head against her hand for more pets. Then I lay down next to her and made biscuits! I felt totally at ease and happy. I love flopping on FM's arm, using it as a pillow, and purring up a storm. I also love head scratches and will get in her lap regularly. I still rub against everything and bonk her hand when she gets home. FM loves when I stretch out my little legs. She warns my future owner not to "free-feed" me, as I finish everything in my bowl. FM is trying to get me used to nail trims. Though I'm not sold on the idea, I never hiss, swat, or nip-I just jump away, then return for cuddles. I can't hold a grudge! As for my sociability, I've met new people and stayed a few minutes before sneaking off. I still need more confidence with strangers.
