Meet Mavis! If you look at her long enough, you might get the sense that she is carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. And for a little while, she was. She came to us as a stray in January and the shelter has been hard on her in ways that only a home can fix.

But here is what else is true about Mavis: she knows sit and shake, she trots along beautifully on a leash, and toys are her whole world. Most dogs in the shelter cannot keep stuffies in their kennels 24/7 because we cannot monitor them around the clock and the risk swallowing pieces is very real. But Mavis gets to keep hers, because they bring her so much comfort and she takes very good care of them. The second you hand her a toy, that serious face disappears completely and she is pure joy.

Our groomer said it best: she thought Mavis might be a handful in the bath, and then Mavis showed up, brought her fish toy with her for moral support, and proceeded to let someone blow dry her like an absolute queen.
