Hey, if you want a good story, just read this interview. On October 5, 2021, I was a 6-month-old stray kitten found in Atlanta, IN, and brought to HSHC. On October 13, I was sent to a foster home to help me gain confidence and become more social. I was a small Tortoiseshell female called Tigress. Unfortunately, on October 29, I escaped my foster's backyard and was never found. Except that in April 2025, I was found by someone in Carmel. I lived with her for one year before I was surrendered to HSHC due to landlord issues. She had no idea I had begun my adventures there five years earlier. My microchip was how the shelter figured out my identity and congratulated me on returning to the shelter! Pretty cool history, right? I am now 5-years-old, 10.9 pounds, spayed, and still a lovely Tortoiseshell lady, but my name is now Mommason. (Weird, because I've never had kittens.) My owner told the shelter I am easy-going, playful, and affectionate with "my person". I was always climbing into my owner's lap for a cuddle. It does take me a while to warm up to new people and places. But I have been enjoying all the attention I've received from the staff and volunteers. I was tickled to be petted by the interviewer lady (IL), and she called me an adorable, Miss Fluffypants. I have excellent litter box manners. My preferences are dry food and Meow Mix treats (but not the tuna ones). Jingle balls are the BEST toys, but I'd be happy to try any new ones you have. I do have a hard time adjusting to new cats. But give me enough time and gradual exposure, and I can coexist with them. I much prefer being besties with my humans! If you adopt me, I promise I will never try to escape, or at least I'll try not to. Just keep an eye on me if we're outdoors! 4-18-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
