I know the bird is spelled "Toucan," and I am a cat. They are very colorful birds, and I am solid black. There could be some debate over whether I am a DSH or a DMH, but I am a 3-year-old, 8.5-pound stray cat from Atlanta, Indiana. The fellow who found me on March 12 brought me to the HSHC. The medical staff found I had an infected puncture wound to my tail, and I was not yet neutered. I was exposed to a virus and became sick, so I didn't get to the adoption floor until I was well on April 1. Now recovered, I reside in Cattery 4 and am getting used to the comings and goings of staff, volunteers, and potential adopters. Today, when the interviewer lady (IL) greeted me, I was napping behind my litter box. I opened one eye to look at her, and closed it again. She was not discouraged and stuck her finger close to my nose. I politely sniffed it, but didn't move. She softly stroked my cheeks, and I rearranged my head to make it easier to reach my chin. She told me I had adorable big cheeks, a sign of later neuterization, and gave them a good scratch. I figure she knows I am a good cat, worthy of love and attention, and that she can write our interview without much input from me. I would love to meet anyone who would like to offer me a permanent place to stay. As you might guess, I'm low-key, easy-going, laid-back, and excellent at relaxing. Just ask the front desk for Tucan the cat, not Toucan the bird. 4-14-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
