Shadow
My name may seem a little plebeian once you see me in person. I've been told I am a beauty, with a silky black coat, a white lavalier, and a few hidden splashes of white on my tummy. My big golden eyes stand out against my ebony fur. I am currently living in a Roaming Room, and I have several places I like to recline, watching the people gaze lovingly at me. I do love an audience! And yes, at nearly 14 pounds, I am a bit full-figured, but there is simply more to love. I am 4-years-old, spayed, and fully educated in the use of the litter box. However, my lifelong owner surrendered me to HSHC on December 30. I was crestfallen! I was first brought into the home as a kitten and given full access to the whole house. The resident cat that they wanted me to befriend hissed at me and ran away. When I got older, I began to pounce and chase her. Later, we moved to a smaller home and had to share less territory and only two litter boxes. We simply did not see eye to eye. Even though I was acquired to be a pet for the child in the home, I formed an intense bond with the mom of the house. I would lie with her, snuggle, and show her affection. I did not feel the same way about the other individuals. And when they wouldn't respect my boundaries and warning signals, I would hiss and swat at them. I know it's wrong, but no one ever taught me to be tolerant and polite when I was a kitten. I need an owner who can read my body language and provide me with plenty of interactive playtime. When I'm stressed, I need to be given the chance to "catch" something, like a toy at the end of a wand or fishing pole. I do love to play with stuffies and balls with bells inside. I think greenies and soft treats are yummy. I really do have a loving personality, but I need some guidance when I get overstimulated. The interviewer lady (IL) has visited me several times, and she agrees with me that I am a gorgeous girl. I have rubbed against her legs and pushed my head into her hands to receive pets. She knows I can be affectionate. But she also knows how to read my signals that I've had enough attention. I really do want to be someone's loving companion. If you're looking for a beautiful, affectionate, and playful cat ready to love you back, please consider adopting me. Will you be the one who can show me the ropes? 3-5-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?

You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
