Estate, Stock & Other Planned Gifts

Present & Future Giving Options

Where there’s a will, there’s a way to help us give Hamilton County and Hoosier animals the chance to live, love, and be loved.  As one of the only open admission, truly no-kill shelters in the country, the cost to provide daily and life saving care continues to grow. Unexpected events like COVID have reinforced why planning for the future is just as critical as paying the bills today.

Your support also funds our unique programs designed to connect Hoosier veterans, children, and at-risk youth with the healing power of pets.   Whether it’s planting the seeds of responsibility and compassion in our youth, or offering those hurting with a sense of hope and purpose, our community outreach programs are changingand savinglives.

So whether you can give today or in the future–both are equally important.  After all, thousands of animals are counting on us every year for that second chance.  We hope you’ll consider one (or more) of the following vehicles by which to share your blessingsand legacywith us so they’ll always get one.

    Matching Gifts

Many corporate employers will match their employees’ gift to a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Matching gifts can double, even triple, your impact!  If you’re not sure whether your company matches employee giving, please contact your HR department.   And, if they do, here’s what to do:

    1. Contact your HR department to request a matching gift form.
    2. Complete the form and send it to HSHC with your donation.
    3. We’ll submit any required paperwork to confirm your contribution…and then we’ll give a big smooch to a shelter animal in your honor!

    Stock Gifts

Avoid capital gains through a gift of highly appreciated stock while taking a full value deduction on your tax returns.

For stock transfer/delivery instructions, please contact our President/CEO, Rebecca Stevens, at hamiltonhumane75@gmail.com.

    NOTE: Our EIN is 35-1610723.

    IRA Direct Rollover Gifts

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA’s) and qualified retirement plans are assets that continue to be a growing source of accumulated wealth… and they are highly taxed at death. Naming the Humane Society for Hamilton County as the beneficiary for some or all of the account may enable an avoidance of both income and estate taxation.

Additionally, individuals age 70 1⁄2+ may donate up to $100,000 per calendar year from their IRAs to HSHC tax-free. The contribution also counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution. Please consult your legal, tax, or financial advisor for support on gifts of this nature.

    NOTE: Our EIN is 35-1610723.

    Bequest/Estate Gifts

Your legacy and love of animals will live on by making HSHC a part of your estate plan. To leave the Humane Society for Hamilton County a gift in your will, please consider the following language or consult your financial/tax advisor.

Unrestricted Gift: “I give and bequeath to the Humane Society for Hamilton County, Inc. located at 10501 Hague Rd., Fishers, IN 46038, in the sum of _____ dollars ($) or _____ percent (%) of my estate, to be used for such uses and purposes as its governing body shall deem appropriate.”

If you are interested in making a restricted gift, or have questions regarding a planned gift left to HSHC, please contact our President/CEO, Rebecca Stevens, at: hamiltonhumane75@gmail.com.

If you have already included HSHC in your estate plan, we would appreciate it if you could fill out the Statement of Intent form accessed via the button below and return it to the attention of Rebecca Stevens at our mailing address, or via email at: hamiltonhumane75@gmail.com.

Please note this form is not legally binding and its use is for our planning purposes only.  You are not required to submit this form unless you so choose.

    Operating Endowment Gifts

Operating endowment gifts provide an endless source of support and are pooled to earn annual interest. The income is spent for current needs while the principal remains untouched. At this time, HSHC does not have an operating endowment.  As we move into our new facility in the Spring 2021, it is absolutely critical that we establish an endowment to sustain the bright future we’ve worked so hard to build.

If you are interested in helping us build an operating endowment, please donate below.

Note there is currently a naming opportunity for the first lead gift we receive to help us establish the endowment.  (A lead gift is considered $500,000 or greater for a naming opportunity.)

Charitable Remainder & Lead Trust Gifts

    Charitable Remainder Trusts

Different types of valuable assets may be sold through a charitable remainder trust to provide payments for life – or a period up to 20 years – to the creator of the trust. When the trust later terminates, the trust assets can be used to benefit the Humane Society for Hamilton County.

Generally, the sale of valuable assets through a charitable remainder trust delays and sometimes eliminates the capital gains tax on any appreciation… and reduces or avoids estate and gift taxes. Please consult your legal, tax, or financial advisor for more information.

    Lead Trusts

Valuable assets may be put in a trust that provides an annual payout to one or more charities for the term of the trust. At the end of the trust term, the remaining property in the trust is distributed to family members of the creator’s family. Please consult your legal, tax, or financial advisor for more information.

    NOTE: Our EIN is 35-1610723.

    Life Insurance

For those who find themselves over-insured, the Humane Society for Hamilton County may be named as a beneficiary – but not the owner – of a life insurance policy. Please consult your legal, tax, or financial advisor to see how you can make HSHC a beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

    NOTE: Our EIN is 35-1610723.
