About Blackfire
I just found out that because I arrived at the HSHC as a stray, I was given a new name. Blackfire sounds pretty impressive, but she is a villain in the DC Comics. I am about 3.5-years-old, with a luxurious, long-haired coat of grey and brown tabby. As a special bonus, I am polydactyl on my front paws, ala Hemingway's cats. When you are a stray cat, you have a relatively small circle of humans that you successfully interact with. During my medical examination, I was considered scared and hesitant, yet very sweet. It was recommended that if you just went slowly with me, I would win your heart. So the interviewer lady (IL) took this advice and approached me with caution. I sniffed her and allowed her to pet my head and shoulders. I even encouraged her to pet me while I ate my breakfast. She complimented my fluffy coat and abundant tail. After some more chin rubs, she let me exit my condo and walk around the room for a bit. I did a quick assessment of the other cats, returned home, and let her pick me up to put me on the second floor. One of the Feline Care Specialists noticed that I may have a short attention span for petting or cuddling, and when I've had enough, I will give you a signal to stop, such as a little swat, a meow, or swishing my tail. As long as my new family understands my tolerance for direct attention, we will be just peachy! 1-12-26

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?
You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
