Description Autumn
Autumn
Don't you just love the beautiful sunny days in the fall when the leaves sparkle red and yellow, the air feels fresh and cool, and the nights are cozy under a blanket? I was named after the fall season, in part because of my pumpkin-colored coat and jade-green eyes. But it is also because I am a beautiful girl. I have lived with my owner all my life, and I am now 5-years-old, and weigh 9.1 pounds. I am one of the 2 out of 10 female orange cats, which is rather special. I was given to my owner by her friend, and although she loves me, she can no longer afford to keep me. You see, I was seen by a neurologist and was diagnosed with a condition called Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome (FHS). This condition causes a cat to exhibit extreme sensitivity and a heightened pain response when its skin is touched. For example, if I am being pet on my hind end or my tail brushes up against something when I'm not expecting it, I may begin to growl and bite my own tail. My reactions are towards myself, not towards people or other animals, because the sensation is coming from my body. The good news is that my pain and stress are being well-managed with pain medication specific to controlling nerve pain, as well as medication to help reduce stress. I will need to stay on these medications lifelong. I use my litter box consistently, and I am easy to redirect if I do something you don't want me to do. My owner says that I have been a very sweet-natured cat with her. I have not gotten along with other cats, I have tolerated the dogs I've lived with, and I've not been with children. At the HSHC, I live in the Catio, which provides me with ample space and plenty of sunbeams in which I can take a nap. When the interviewer lady (IL) came in to see me, I came out of my Kitty Kasa so I could sniff her. I roamed around a bit, watching the cats next door and people walking by the windows. But when she called my name, I went up to her, rubbing against her and requesting pets. I was feeling calm and friendly and did not feel uncomfortable or in pain. I let her rub my head and ears, and I sniffed her pencil as she recorded our visit. If you can give me the medications I need to live a happy life, please consider offering me a home. It's October, and Autumn is upon us! 10-1-25

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?

You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
