Description Lady Penny (in Foster)
Lady Penny
Don't be intimidated by my name, Lady Penny. Overall, the title "Lady" signifies a woman's noble status or connection to the aristocracy in England. But here in Indiana, it just means there was already a Penny at the shelter, so they tacked on Lady. I am a 3-year-old female tabby cat with some interesting stripes, but a thin coat. I am a petite girl, at only 6.8 pounds. I have lived with my owner since I was a tiny kitten. As long as I can remember, I have been a timid little wallflower. Shy is my middle name. My owner surrendered me to the HSHC on June 2 due to a "lack of commitment". Here are the things that scared me the most.
1. I have always had just one litterbox, the kind that is covered and you roll it over to sift out the Tootsie Rolls! I thought it was scary.
2. I had an ongoing tiff with the neighbor's cat when our window was open. Gee whiz, He kept stalking the house!
3. When new people came to the house, my instinct was to run and hide, sometimes for several days under the couch.
Here is where I felt the safest and happiest.
1. Spending most of my time in the 12-year-old daughter's room. If anything scary happened, I'd run to hide in her room.
2. I would let the daughter hold me like a football.
3. I loved playing with anything she gave me, but my favorites were laser pointers and stuffed fabric mice.
4. I lived with a Shih Tzu, and we would sit near each other and occasionally play together.
5. I slept with the daughter in her room at night.
6. It is fun to hide under things and bat at your ankles.
7. Catnip makes me mellow.
8. I enjoy being brushed with a plastic-toothed brush.
The interviewer lady (IL) was very gentle and quiet with me, and I relaxed, letting her pet me all over. I rubbed against her and gave her headbutts. I could have gone to sleep while she petted me. The fact that I am a nervous Nelly about lots of things causes me stress. And stress can actually make me sick with a bladder infection. The HSHC staff can provide you with helpful information about making me feel relaxed and safe in your home. A calm, predictable routine is essential to keeping me comfortable. 7-22-25

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?

You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
