Description Hazel (in Foster)
Hazel
Hello there, glad to meet you. I am an 8-year-old cat with a plump figure, walking around on four declawed paws, which required surgery to remove leftover bone fragments. Can we agree that it is an "ouchy" situation? About four years ago, my owners brought home a puppy. She was allowed to roam the house freely. I found her annoying, but I didn't make a fuss. I had always gotten along with the 13 and 9-year-old kids, cuddling and sleeping with them. My latest weight has reached 16.4 pounds. When I was surrendered to HSHC on February 9th, testing revealed I had a painful bladder infection. The HSHC staff sent me to live with a foster mom (FM) to recover from my foot surgery and UTI and to give me a break from the shelter. My foster mom (FM) recently reported that now that I'm healed from my surgery, she switched me from the pine/paper litter to regular litter, and I am using my litterbox like an expert! She upgraded me to a bigger box, which has also helped. I still love to sleep in my tiny cat house every night, but my top 3 favorite nap places are on top of the kitchen table, in the middle of the kitchen floor, and in a big, cozy chair. I'm not much of an athlete, so don't expect me to win any high jump awards, but I can jump onto the beds and chairs. I do not let my size or age slow me down; I still love to play. Cat toys are great, but twisty ties and a zip-tie keep me entertained till my next nap. When FM greets me with "Good morning, Hazel," I'll give her a little raspy meow. All she has to say is my name, and I know it's mealtime! I'll give her a quiet meow when she wakes me from a nap. My purrs, however, are very loud and frequent. I'm a very contented, loving girl. I'm still hesitant around new people and will hide or run away from them. But they can quickly win me over with the help of some treats!! I've gotten along swimmingly with the dog! FM thinks I'd be perfect in a house with other animals or kids because chaos does not bother me! I can't tear up furniture, and I can't jump up onto the counters. I am truly such a sweet cat. When FM sits down, I start rubbing and purring all over her. FM tells me I am an adorable girl. I am obsessed with FM's feet! I rub and nibble on her toes whenever I'm sitting with her. The HSHC can give you loads of information on helping me adjust to a new home and dealing with sore paws. Adopting me will require a patient and understanding cat person. But all I need is another chance to fit into your family. 4-18-25

Not Quite Ready To Adopt?

You can make an immeasurable impact by opening your home and your heart to an animal in need. Fostering is a great opportunity to introduce a pet into your home without making a lifelong commitment. Many of our foster humans end up adopting their fostered animals, but many also choose to just provide the temporary shelter and love our animals need to get through a trying time.
