Humane Society for
Hamilton County Mourns Loss of Triumph
Noblesville,
Ind., April 16, 2007 – The Humane Society for Hamilton
County lost a true friend today, Triumph. Triumph was the
emaciated pit bull found 2 weeks ago with his teeth cut out
and suffering from heartworm disease. He was being treated
for an infection resulting from the amateur tooth
extractions when we noticed he began having labored
breathing last Wednesday. He was taken in for an ultrasound
which detected a mass near his liver prompting surgery this
morning. During surgery, the veterinarian found that cancer
had spread throughout his intestine and to other vital
organs. While under anesthetic, we allowed Triumph to
peacefully pass away.
We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support of
those coming to the aid of Triumph with monetary donations
and offers to foster him through his medical treatment.
Although the HSHC staff and those who had the opportunity to
meet Triumph are devastated by this loss, we have been
inspired by watching our community come together to help
these animals.
A reward fund has been established to help encourage
anyone with information regarding those involved with the
abuse and dumping of Triumph and 8 other pit bulls to step
forward. The HSHC has set aside $1,000 of Triumph’s
donations to go towards the Reward Fund which is now up to
$1,120.
The HSHC will continue working with local law enforcement
to find those responsible for these crimes. Anyone with
information regarding these animals or other dog fighting
activities should contact Animal Control Officer Tom Rogers
at (317) 773-1282.
The mission of the Humane Society for Hamilton County
(HSHC) is to provide a compassionate and healthy environment
for the homeless animals in our care until they can be
placed into permanent, loving homes. The HSHC strives to
promote responsible pet ownership and reduce the suffering
caused by pet overpopulation and animal cruelty by offering
low cost spay/neuter solutions and education.
