Pit Bull Education Month Celebrated with Pit Bull
Parade,
Free Education Seminars and Chris Denari, voice of
the Indiana Pacers
Noblesville, Ind.,– A family-friendly day
of events to educate and dispel myths about pit bull
terriers is scheduled for Saturday, March 20, 2010,
at the Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC), as
part of Pit Bull Education Month.
“Pit bulls are the most misunderstood and abused
breed of dog in the world,” says Executive Director
Rebecca Stevens. “Our goal is to not only educate
the community regarding what is fact versus fiction
when it comes to the Pit Bull, but also what it
means to be a responsible dog owner regardless of
breed,” says Stevens.
The free event will take place on Saturday, March
20, 2010, starting with a Pit Parade at 12:30 p.m.
Pit Bull and Pix mix owners are welcome to bring
their leashed pets out to parade through the
Hamilton County Fairgrounds to show their Pit Bull
pride. The parade is followed by two free seminars –
2 p.m.: The American Pitbull Terrier: Fact Versus
Fiction; and 3:30 p.m.: Dog Safety Tips & a Meet the
Pack Demonstration by Fernando Pastran. While the
seminars are free, space is limited so reservations
are required. To register, call Mandy Maxwell at
317-219-4630 or email
mmaxwell@hamiltonhumane.com.
The voice of the Indiana Pacers, Chris Denari, and
his Pit Bull, Bailey, are scheduled to appear and
will be participating in the “Kiss a Pit” booth in
the HSHC lobby starting at 12 p.m. Bailey was
adopted from the HSHC in 2009. Denari is the
spokesperson for HSHC’s Pit Bull Education month.
“Bailey is our second Pit Bull and is a truly
amazing dog,” says Denari. “Both of our Pit Bulls
are excellent family dogs, so it breaks my heart to
see so many sitting in shelters passed over by
potential adopters due to the negative, and
inaccurate, perception of the breed.”
HSHC will discount adult Pit Bulls and Pit Bull
mixes during the month of March to $50. Qualifying
dogs will have a picture of the shelter’s Pit Bull
Ambassador, Chulo, on their cage or kennel.
About the Humane Society for Hamilton County
The Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC) is a
non-profit 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. It is
not a United Way Agency, and is not affiliated with
any other animal welfare group in the United States.
The HSHC also serves as the animal control facility
for Hamilton County, and, as such, receives partial
funding from Hamilton County. The majority of the
HSHC budget is funded by private donors. The HSHC
will not euthanize animals for space and time, and
will treat sick and injured animals if there’s an
outlook for recovery and a high quality of life.
Many animals are hit-by-car injured,
heartworm-positive, malnourished, or otherwise
wounded and/or sick. The HSHC will provide most of
these animals with life-saving treatments, surgeries
and medications as their best chance for a second
chance and until they are placed into forever homes.
