Humane Society
for Hamilton County’s Homeward
Bound Holiday Promotion Aims to Find Homes for
250 Orphaned Animals by Christmas
Noblesville, Ind., December 1, 2009 – The Humane
Society for Hamilton County (HSHC) is asking for the
community’s support in finding homes for 250
homeless dogs and cats just in time for the
holidays. The shelter’s Homeward Bound for the
Holidays promotion aims to reduce the more than 500
dogs and cats being cared for by the shelter.
“The time has never been more urgent to find
loving homes for these deserving dogs and cats,”
said HSHC Executive Director Rebecca Stevens. “I
can’t think of a better time than the holidays for
that to happen. With the unprecedented state of the
economy, this year has been extremely challenging
for us.”
Stevens added that residents in and around
Indianapolis interested in adopting a shelter cat
but are unable to due to the recent viral outbreak
at the Humane Society of Indianapolis should visit
the shelter and its more than 300 kittens and cats
now waiting for homes.
The Homeward Bound for the Holidays campaign
begins December 1 and lasts until December 31. The
shelter created an “adopt-o-meter” displayed in the
lobby to keep track of the 250 adoption goal. For
every adoption, clear stockings will be filled with
pet food marking the number of adoptions that have
occurred until the 250th adoption is reached.
The campaign will feature 50 animals – 25 dogs
and 25 cats – that have been at the shelter the
longest. Each of these animals will come with
adoption incentives: the dogs will come with
training packages valued at $150 provided by Dog
Dayz Playhouse & Retreat in Noblesville (either a
6-week beginner’s training class OR two one-on-one
private training sessions with a trainer) and goodie
bags containing treats, toys and samples. Cats will
come with goodie bags stuffed with treats, toys and
a $25 in gift card to any Pet Supplies “Plus” store.
The “Featured 50” will also have a reduced adoption
fee of $50.
Individuals may also purchase either $30 silver
or $50 gold sponsorships that will help pay for a
homeless animal’s care during the holiday season.
Individuals will be able to choose between having an
ornament hung in the animal’s kennel or cage
honoring a friend, family or loved one, or have an
acknowledgement card featuring the animal’s photo
sent to a friend, family or loved one. These are
also wonderful memoriam gifts to acknowledge those
loved ones or pets we’ve lost.
In addition, $100 Pet Sponsorships for a dog or a
cat are available for those who cannot adopt a pet
this holiday season but would like to help them find
a home by making them more adoptable to prospective
families. The $100 sponsorships for dogs will pay
for an appropriately sized crate, fleece blanket and
toy that will go home with the dog once it is
adopted. For cats, the $100 sponsorship will pay for
a PetMate litter box, scoop, deodorizer and litter,
bed and toys.
On December 19 and 20, the shelter will hold its
adopt-a-thon and will extend its normal business
hours to noon – 7 p.m. both days. In addition,
pictures with Santa will be held on December 19 from
noon – 4 p.m. at the Winks building on the grounds
of the Noblesville 4-H Fairgrounds next door to the
shelter. For a minimum donation of $10, the public
can bring their family pet(s) for a picture with
Santa. All animals adopted that weekend will be able
to have the pictures taken for free.
The community can also donate items off the
shelter’s wish list at
www.hamiltonhumane.com or purchase adoption gift
certificates at the shelter.

About the Humane Society for Hamilton County
The Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC) is a
non-profit 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. It is not a
United Way Agency, and is not affiliated with any other
animal welfare group in the United States. The HSHC also
serves as the animal control facility for Hamilton County,
and, as such, receives partial funding from Hamilton County.
The majority of the HSHC budget is funded by private donors.
The HSHC will not euthanize animals for space and time, and
will treat sick and injured animals if there’s an outlook
for recovery and a high quality of life. Many animals are
hit-by-car injured, heartworm-positive, malnourished, or
otherwise wounded and/or sick. The HSHC will provide most of
these animals with life-saving treatments, surgeries and
medications as their best chance for a second chance and
until they are re-homed. |
