The B.B.’s Buddies program helps provide food, shelter and veterinary care prior to an animal being placed in a home.

Many of the animals who arrive at the shelter are in need of immediate medical attention as well as general care. It can take several weeks, sometimes months, to find a permanent home for a shelter dog or cat. Your donations will help us cover the cost of care so we can continue to be a shelter that doesn’t impose time limits on an animal’s length of stay.

You see, we keep them as long as they are thriving in this environment. We give them their best possible chance to find the right home, and that takes time. Your sponsorship of a shelter animal’s daily care will make all the difference in our ability to keep up with the ever-growing number of animals who are depending on us.

Why sponsor an animal?

If you are unable to give your home to an animal, give your heart. The Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC) provides the necessary support to shelter, feed, and provide medical care to a rescued animal. Your sponsorship will directly save animals and give them a life they once only dreamed of. The costs incurred to take care of one animal by the HSHC for one week is significant. Business costs run $58 per animal per week and include hazardous waste pick-up, litter pans, litter, food, office equipment, postage, paperwork, animal transport, cleaning supplies and much more. The average cost of vaccines is $21 per animal. Special medications for one week for a sick animal can cost on average $10 per week. These numbers do not include labor costs to care for the animals such as walking, feeding and cleaning cages. Your sponsorship will help to offset these costs giving the animals the time needed to find a home.

How does the program work?

It’s easy. Just complete the registration form. You can choose the type of animal you want to sponsor on the form.

What do you get?

You will receive a sponsor package with your pet’s profile and photo.

Is my sponsorship tax deductible?

Yes. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization, and your contribution is fully deductible for federal income tax purposes allowed by law.

What if my animal gets adopted?

If your animal is adopted and placed into a loving home, your sponsorship will be automatically transferred to another needy animal.

Can I buy a sponsorship for a friend or family member?

Yes. Just indicate on the registration form that your sponsorship is a gift to someone else.

How many animals come through the Humane Society each year?

Hamilton County is growing at a record pace of 32%. It is the 18th fastest growing county in the nation. With such exponential growth comes the increased expense of general care, medical care, staffing and daily operations. HSHC took in over 3,100 homeless animals in 2006 and will see well over 3,700 in 2007.

About B.B. ...

The Humane Society for Hamilton County’s official mascot serves as our cheerleader and participates in fundraising and educational events.

B.B. was discovered October 14, 2005 as she explored a Noblesville neighborhood with her parents, Betty and
Barney Basset.

A human family spotted the canine family and contacted an animal control officer for assistance. That day, the Bassets arrived at the Humane Society. Droopy, sad eyes working in tandem with ears she often trips over made her a shoe-in for the position of official mascot.
