Letter from our Pack Leader

Rebecca & Chulo

Rebecca Stevens and Chulo, the Pit Bull Ambassador of the Humane Society for Hamilton County

Dear Friends,

You may have seen in recent media reports the significant challenge we've had finding enough space for all our new arrivals.  That challenge is a daily one that is only magnified when we have an unusually large intake day or weekend.  And so it was 2 weeks ago when 33 new animals arrived in one weekend.

Pleas for help resulted in many new foster applications and an excellent adoption weekend the following week...so we breathe a bit for now.  A continual outflow of animals, however, through adoption and fostering is critical and the only way we can possibly keep up.  I encourage you all to consider fostering an animal if possible, and if you can add another critter to your pack, then please do!

And we especially need your generous contributions as we currently have no corporate sponsor for our Survivor Program.  As we search for a business in our community to support this program, it is now solely through your individual donations that we are funding emergency medical care.  In fact, our very  own Pit Bull Ambassador, Chulo, went in for emergency surgery this morning to remove his spleen.  A cancerous tumor ruptured causing internal bleeding on Thursday, so we are all praying for his recovery and that he will be blessing our lives for as long as possible.

We sincerely appreciate your Survivor Program donations so animals like Chulo and hundreds of others arriving each year can receive the emergency medical care needed to save their lives.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Stevens

Buster's Valentines!
    Buster

Looking for something different to give your Valentine this year?  Look no further...Buster, one of the official feline mascots of the Humane Society for Hamilton County, has come up with an idea we think is pure genius!  Instead of getting your special someone fattening chocolates, flowers that will just wither away, or a sappy card, why not give them something meaningful that not only shows you love them, but also helps Hamilton County's homeless, abandoned, neglected and abused animals.

Does this cat know his stuff or what!?!

For just $30, you can sponsor a shelter pet for the month of February which will help us pay for general care and medical needs.   A big beautiful heart will be placed on a kennel or cage of a shelter animal recognizing your contribution or the name of your special Valentine.

You let us know how many hearts you'd like to purchase and whether you'd like to sponsor a dog or cat, and we'll assign your heart to one of our very special animals. Ornaments will be displayed throughout the entire month of February.

OR

We can send a Valentine's Day acknowledgement card to your gift recipient.  We do need orders in no later than Wednesday, February 10th to ensure delivery by Valentine's Day.

Lady

Lady is a 5 year American Staffordshire Terrier mix with a smile that can light up a room.
Lady is very social and loves getting attention. She and her sister Zoe arrived at the shelter at the end of July when her previous owner could no longer keep her because of landlord issues. They did tell us that she is house trained and friendly with children.  She is selective about other dogs and requires a feline-free home.
Lady is extremely loving and did not receive the memo that she isn't a lap dog.  Her smile lights up the room and is the remedy to any rainy day.  Lady also qualifies for the PAWS Program making her adoption fee just $45 if you're 55 years or older!

Lady is in URGENT need of a foster (or permanent) home as she does have a torn ACL that needs to be repaired.  She is confined to a crate in our kennel to keep her from re-injuring herself and she is in pain.  We're managing her pain with medication, but surgery is the solution.  Please consider fostering Lady so she can get relief from her injury. Contact animalprograms@hamiltonhumane.com if you can give Lady approximately 8 weeks in your home to heal.

If you cannot adopt a pet, you can help in other ways by:

1. Fostering:  Email animalprograms@hamiltonhumane.com for more information on fostering an animal in need.

2. Advocating: Choose an animal to be your project.  Email your friends, co-workers, post on FaceBook, etc. to help us find that animal a home.

3. Donating:  It's very expensive to provide general and medical care to an animal for several months, and in these cases, over a year, until they find a home.  It is only through your contributions that time does not run out on these special animals.

We greatly appreciate your tax deductible donations.
