      DONATIONS & PLANNED GIVING

Max survived a serious injury to his leg and went on to find his forever home. Your donations made this possible.

The Humane Society for Hamilton County is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. We do not receive funds from United Way nor are we affiliated with any national animal welfare organization. We do contract for services with various municipalities within Hamilton County and with the county itself for the care and shelter of stray and owner released animals. This contract covers the cost of care for a stray or “owner released” animal for 7 days. On day 8, the financial responsibility for each animal including the spay/neuter, medical care and daily care is funded by the Humane Society. All emergency medical care, however, is funded by the Humane Society from day one. This is why your contributions are vital to the success of our organization and the lives of the animals who depend on us.

We believe every animal deserves the opportunity to find a loving home regardless of age, breed, disability or special needs. And we know this takes time; therefore, we do not place time limits on how long we will hold an animal nor do we euthanize healthy, adoptable animals for space.

We can only do this with your continued and generous financial support.

We welcome gifts, whether it is the donation of a warm bed, an in-kind donation of services or supplies, or a monetary donation that helps us pay the bills. Financial gifts may be restricted to certain programs or unrestricted. Unrestricted gifts are our greatest need. If you would like to contribute to a specific program, please choose from the list below:

  • BB’s Buddies
  • The Survivor Program/Moore Life Fund
  • Spay/Neuter Funding—The Humane Society spays or neuters all animals prior to going to their new adoptive homes. Contributions to this fund help us cover the cost associated with spaying and neutering the animals in our care.
  • Samantha Fund—The Samantha Fund was established in honor of a beautiful black Labrador Retriever named Sam who stole the hearts of all those who knew her. The fund is used to improve the quality of life for our animals as they wait for their forever homes. Examples of items purchased with this fund include but are not limited to: Kuranda beds for dogs, bedding for cats, Kongs, community cat room toys and trees, agility equipment for the play yard, leashes, collars, etc.

Financial gifts can be easily made via:

  • Cash or check
  • Credit card (by phone, mail or online)
  • Recurring monthly withdrawal from your bank account
  • Matching gifts (through your employer)
  • Stock gifts
  • Corporate sponsorships
  • Bequests
  • Endowment gifts

Recurring Monthly Withdrawal: The BB’s Buddies Program is set up to allow for a monthly, recurring withdrawal from your checking or savings account. You may choose whether you would like your donation to go toward the daily care of a cat or a dog…or both.

Matching Gifts: If you and/or your spouse work for, or are retired from a company or foundation with a matching gifts program, you may be able to double or triple your gift to the HSHC. Pick up a matching gift form from your employer, fill it out, and enclose it with your gift to the shelter. Please contact your employer for details regarding your Matching Gifts Program.

Stock Gifts: Gifts of appreciated securities that have been owned for over 1 year are beneficial gifts from a tax perspective. Capital gains tax on the appreciation is avoided and the income tax deduction is based on the current value of the stock. If you would like to make a gift of stock, please contact Marianna Beem at mbeem@hamiltonhumane.com for delivery instructions or leave a message for her at or 317-735-9631. Please consult your tax advisor, and for Humane Society related questions, contact Marianna Beem at mbeem@hamiltonhumane.com or 317-735-9631.

Corporate Sponsorships: We are always looking for new corporate partners and rely on their support and generosity. For information regarding our Corporate Sponsorship Program and current sponsors, click here.

Bequests: Most individuals are able to make a larger charitable gift as a bequest at death through their estate plan rather than outright gifts during their lifetimes. Gifts of this nature can be made in different ways:

  • Will: If you have a Will already, please consult your attorney for a simple codicil to your Will. We suggest the following language:
    • Unrestricted Gift: “I give and bequeath to the Humane Society for Hamilton County, Noblesville, IN, the sum of _____ dollars ($ ) or ______percent(%) of my estate, to be used for such uses and purposes as its governing body shall deem appropriate.”
    • Restricted Gift: “ I gift and bequeath to the Humane Society for Hamilton County, Noblesville, IN, the sum of ______dollars ($ ), or ____ percent ( %) of my estate for the specific purpose of _____________ (describe program), or for such uses and purposes as its governing body shall deem appropriate if said program is not then in existence.”

Charitable Remainder Trusts: Many different types of valuable assets may be sold through a charitable remainder trust to provide payments for life or a period up to 20 years to the creator of the trust. Later, when the trust terminates, the trust assets can benefit the Humane Society for Hamilton County. Generally the sale of
valuable assets through a charitable remainder trust delays and sometimes avoids altogether the capital gains tax on any appreciation and reduces or avoids estate and gift taxes. This is a sophisticated estate planning tool often times used in conjunction with other strategies. Please consult your advisor or direct questions to Marianna Beem at mbeem@hamiltonhumane.com or 317-735-9631.

Charitable Lead Trusts: Valuable assets may be put in a trust that provides an annual payout to one or more charities for the term of the trust. At the end of the trust term the remaining property in the trust is distributed to family members of the creator’s family. This is a sophisticated estate planning tool often times used in conjunction with other strategies. Consult your advisor or direct questions to Marianna Beem at mbeem@hamiltonhumane.com or 317-735-9631.

Life Insurance: Many individuals whose families have grown find themselves over-insured and not needing the life insurance. The Humane Society for Hamilton County may be named as the beneficiary but not the owner of the life insurance policy. The gift is revocable and does not qualify for an income tax deduction. The value of the
policy will be included in the owner’s estate for federal estate tax purposes and it will be offset by a charitable deduction for the proceeds paid to the organization. Please consult your tax advisor, and for Humane Society related questions, contact Marianna Beem at mbeem@hamiltonhumane.com or 317-735-9631.

Individual Retirement: Accounts and qualified retirement plans are assets that continue to be a growing source of accumulated wealth and are the single largest asset owned by many Americans. These assets are more highly taxed at death than other assets. Naming the Humane Society for Hamilton County as the beneficiary
for some or all of the account will avoid both the income and estate taxation on these pools of dollars. Please consult your tax advisor, and for Humane Society related questions, contact Marianna Beem at mbeem@hamiltonhumane.com or 317-735-9631.

Claire was an owner release who arrived with a serious urinary tract infection. After treatment, we had to keep her on a prescription diet to prevent recurring infections. It took 1 year to find Claire a forever home. Claire would have been euthanized anywhere else.

Endowment Gifts: Endowment gifts provide an endless source of support. Gifts are pooled to earn annual interest. The income is spent for current needs while the principal remains untouched. Memorial Gifts: A donation made in memory of a beloved person or pet is a thoughtful way to pay tribute. When a memorial gift is received, we send a thank-you letter to the donor and an acknowledgment to the family of the deceased. Gifts made in the amount of $150 or more are also placed on the Tree of Life Mural displayed in our lobby. Memorial gift envelopes are available at the shelter or you may contact Marianna Beem at (317) 317-735-9631 or mbeem@hamiltonhumane.com to drop off envelopes at the funeral home.

Gifts in Honor: A donation that honors an animal lover for a birthday, anniversary or graduation, or just to say “thanks,” is always welcome. When an honorary gift is received, we send a thank-you letter to the donor and an acknowledgment card to the honoree.

Kennel/Cage Plaques: For just $200 a plaque will be mounted on the dog kennel or cat cage of your choice in recognition of your contribution with either your business name or an individual/family name. This is also a wonderful and lasting way to pay tribute to a loved one or pet. Kennel/cage sponsorships are done on an annual basis and are $200 per plaque per year. A lifetime plaque may also be purchased for $2,000.

For more information about sponsoring a dog kennel or cat cage, please contact Terry Coyle at (317) 219-3324 or tcoyle@hamiltonhumane.com.
