Jasmine: “I think I got a little heavy handed
with the eyeliner this morning!”
But you know, when a gal is not a kitten anymore,
she has to use some cosmetics to make herself feel
pretty. I just happen to like L’Oreal, because I’m
worth it. I’m really unsure as to why I’m here. My
owner surrendered me back in October 08 due to ill
health. I am 9 years old and moving has not been
easy for me. As you see in my photo, I am a DLH
kitty with a fluffy
tabby and white coat. I have always been a quiet
sort of girl, laid back and happy to be a lap cat. I
would love to find a new human who is also in the
“prime of life” & enjoys a quiet life style.
Children, other cats and dogs just don’t
appeal to
me anymore. No…I just long for a loving home,
regular meals, and someone’s lap to curl up in for a
nap. I was excited to hear about this PAWS program
which pairs humans 55 or older with Senior pets for
a reduced cost. Sounds like a wonderful plan, don’t
you think? Ask at the front desk to visit with me
and maybe we can work out a mutually satisfactory
arrangement!

Sissy: Since each of us is blessed with only
one life, why not live it with a cat? - Robert
Stearns
I sure hope that everyone feels the way that Mr.
Stearns does! Hello, my name is Sissy and I am a
6 years old golden brown tabby with white fur on my
lips and chin. I have been told that I am a beauty
and I guess I would have to agree. I lived with my
owner until he decided to surrender me to this
place. I’m not sure why he gave me up, but he said
that he couldn’t keep me any longer. I am a very
nice girl and I don’t take up much room. Oh well, I
hear that this shelter is the best place to be if
you want to find a new home. My owner never had me
spayed, which I find inexcusable! Did you know that
one female cat can give birth to as many as 420
kittens in her lifetime, and each of those girl
kittens can do the same after reaching
maturity? No
wonder this place is over flowing with kitties!
Anyway, because I don’t get the exercise I need I
have become a tad plump, but I’m sure this will
improve once I have a house to explore.
Is yours
available?
I qualify for the PAWS program.

Miles: I like to think I was named for Miles
Davis, my fellow cool cat!
I feel like I’m experiencing déjà vu….. I started
out my life as a kitten here at HSHC 8 years ago.
I was adopted by my family back then and I
thought I was going to spend my life with them. But
because I was having some “bathroom issues” they
decided that I needed to come back to the shelter.
Son on July 3rd, I moved back in. I got sick pretty
soon after arriving (which often happens with owner
surrendered cats) but the good people here took me
to the vet to have me checked out. I am back to full
health now and I have not shown any signs of “going
outside the box” while being here. I am declawed in
front and already neutered. I get along fine with
other pets, but kids make me a bit nervous. I think
that that may be
the reason I was having my little issues. I guess at
my age, I prefer a quieter home where I can take
naps and enjoy the peace of an older household. If
you are 55 or older and enjoy Miles Davis music then
I think we would be perfect for one another. I
qualify for the PAWS program.

 Sarah
"Cats are a tonic, they are a laugh, they are a
cuddle, they are at least pretty just about all of
the time and beautiful some of the time."- Roger
Caras
Allow me to introduce Sarah, a 10 years old orange
and white girl who has lived with her owner for 8
years. Because he was moving on July 30 he
decided to surrender her to the HSHC. As you may
already know, owner surrendered kitties don’t do
well in the catteries. They don’t understand why
their world has shrunk to the size of a cage. Sure
enough, Sarah became sick within two days of
arriving here and had to spend time in a foster home
in order to get well. She came back to us feeling
much better, but she does seem a bit down in the
dumps. Sarah was napping when I went to visit with
her, but she woke up in a good mood. Although she
never made a peep, she seemed to enjoy being petted
and scratched. Sarah is a big girl, already spayed
and has been front declawed. As far as I can tell
she would make someone a wonderful companion. Just
look at her baby pink nose and cute little white
triangle on her face! Quite fetching, I think.
According to her former owner, Sarah got along well
with children but tried to be boss with other pets.
I can see Sarah being a pampered only-pet and being
quite content. Because she does not always use the
litter box in a tidy fashion, Sarah requires a
lidded litter box. If you are 55 or older, you can
adopt Sarah for a reduced fee! I can promise you
that she would love to move back into a real home,
with a window she could sit by and a nice warm lap
to sit upon.

McLovin:
Talk about a misnomer! This pretty kitty is a
girl! Her first owners must have liked the movie “Superbad”.
Unfortunately after a year they surrendered her to
us in May 09, due to their impending pregnancy. In
August McLovin was adopted. But after 45 days, they
decided that they did not want to deal with her
problem with crystals in her urine and they returned
her to us. She is perfectly healthy; she simply
requires a diet that prevents the crystals from
building up in her bladder. This little girl is only
1 ½ years old and has already lived in two homes.
She was reported by her last owners to be friendly
with kids and pets alike. She still has a lot of
kitten energy and curiosity. McLovin is very playful
and can get very “wound up” if you play vigorously
with her. She has many years ahead of her and you
can make them happy ones by bringing her home with
you today. She is already spayed and quite eager to
meet you. She would like to discuss changing her
name to something a little more feminine…. Perhaps
Lovey!
PS. Please don’t mention the fact that she has a
bit of a mustache. She’s rather sensitive about
this.

 Freckles:
Look me in the eyes and tell me you don’t think I’m
cute!
I have mesmerizing eyes don’t you think? I am trying
to send you a message via my thought waves; “come
adopt the cute little dilute calico cat with the
golden brown eyes”.
Is it working yet? I am a 2
years old girl & I arrived at the HSHC on August 2
because I was lost. I have been living on my own
most of my life & that is why I was never spayed.
But I am grateful to be here—I’m out of the bad
weather, I have a warm place to sleep, meals and
clean litter. The only problem is after so many
weeks, this little cage makes me feel
claustrophobic. That is why I am trying my best to
get someone to read my mind and come adopt me. I am
a very laid-back girl and prefer a relaxed pace of
life. I would enjoy the company of another cat who
likes to “chill” or even being the center of
attention as an only pet. I’m rather petite,
slightly curious about my surroundings, but never
overly dramatic. Please read my mind……...soon!

 Tippy
arrived at the shelter when her family surrendered
her at the age of 6 years old…and tipping the scales
at over 18lbs. We had a long talk with her and
explained a diet would be in order, and we started
her on weight control food and an exercise plan in
her foster home. We’re very proud to say that Tippy
returns to us now at 13.6 lbs and is looking slimmer
than ever. Word is that Jenny Craig is even
considering Tippy as the next spokeswoman, but
sources will not confirm or deny as negotiations are
still taking place.
Now, look at those jade green eyes and snowy
white coat with a saddle of brown and black tiger
stripes. She is spayed and a bona fide lap cat who
likes to wrap her front legs around your neck and
knead you like dough. Like a bowl of weight control
kibble, she’s simply irresistible!

 Jackson:
Can you touch your nose with your tongue?
This is just one of many talents I possess.
I am approximately 3 years old, already neutered and
a native of Noblesville. An Animal Care Officer
found me while I was going door-to-door selling
magazine subscriptions in exchange for food. It’s a
good thing since I hadn’t made a sale yet. This was
back in mid August. I am a very genial individual &
happy to be at the shelter where I get fed every
day. The thing is, I really miss being a family cat.
I vaguely recall what it was like to be a treasured
pet and what I do remember was being in the center
of things. I miss the hub-bub of kids getting ready
for school, family game night, popcorn parties. Yes,
I really want nothing more than to be part of a
family. You can see that I am a “domestic short
hair” with a tabby blend of grey, white and buff in
my coat. Among my other talents is an ability to fit
within any container I find myself—shoe box, fruit
bowl, book shelf and an ability to locate reading
material and sit on it (preferably while someone is
actually reading). If you would like to experience
the inexplicable joy of owning a house cat then I’m
your man!

Lonna:
Don’t you agree that every animal deserves a safe
and happy life? Well, then come and adopt me!
If you are reading this you are at least
toying with the idea of adopting a homeless animal.
I would like to be considered for the position.
I am about 2 ½ years old and I was brought to the
HSHC on June 23 09, so that means I’ve been here
almost 6 months. Wow, I don’t mean to sound
ungrateful, but I never thought I’d be staying that
long. I am a black & white girl with a dashed line
of white on my chest and a white belly. Look closely
at my photo and you will see some white hairs in my
ears too! Being a stray cat is not at all fun. You
never know what you are going to find to eat or
where you will sleep out of the bad weather, not to
mention the fear of cars and mean animals. So I
really do appreciate the kind people here taking
care of me. But I wish I could be special to just
one or two people. All of us cats talk at night when
the lights are out and I love listening to the owner
surrendered cats talk about what it was like to be
an indoor pet cat. Even though they are sad, they
get excited relating stories about cat toys, cat
beds, windows, and people to cuddle up with! Please
give me a chance to know what it is like to be a pet
kitty in a forever home. I will be waiting here
looking forward to visiting with you!

 Columbo:
I used to wear European cut suits, but now I’m in
the Husky-man sizes.
I think it’s because I have been living the soft
life here at HSHC for nearly 4 months. And thank
goodness for that! When I arrived in May 09, I was
skin and bones and very sick. I spent a lot of time
in “sick bay” and even in a foster home trying to
get well. But after medicine, loving care and
regular meals, I have ballooned up a tad. It’s
because there’s not much to do here but eat, sleep &
watch the other cats across the room. It can be very
boring. I’d love to stretch out full length in a
nice sunny spot, but that is just not possible here.
I am a bit over 2 years old, white with buff on my
ears, tail and a spot on my back. I have very soft
fluffy fur & everyone comments on my gold eyes that
are ringed with cinnamon. I am a bit proud of these.
I am very affectionate, get along with cats, love
attention and a good chin rub. I am not too fond of
being picked up, but I have great hopes of becoming
a lap cat! I have been neutered so I can come home
with you today!

 Cilvia
or Sylvia, I’m not picky.
This quiet, mild mannered girl has been with
us since Oct. 09. It is easy to overlook her;
she is a little shy and does not make any waves. She
is mostly black with a lovely snow white ruff around
her neck. She is only 2 years old and has been
spayed. She came to us as a stray kitty and seemed
to be grateful for a warm place to stay. She arrived
with an eye injury and went to a foster home to
recover. Now that she is back, she spends most of
her time napping and observing the comings and
goings of the staff and visitors. She would much
prefer being a beloved house cat, sitting in her
favorite window watching the birds and squirrels.
Because she is quiet and gentle and is not a flashy
Siamese or bright Calico we think Sylvia is often
passed over by the public. Please make a special
effort to visit with our little wallflower!

 CANDY:
This girl deserves the “Mother of the Year” award!
On September an Animal Control Officer found Candy
abandoned and left to fend for herself. And to
make things worse, she was pregnant! We found a
loving foster mother to care for her. This is what
her “foster mom” said about Candy:
Candy is a loving girl. She was an incredible mother
although her story is a little sad. She had 3
kittens of her own, two of whom died while they were
with me. She also acted as surrogate mother to 3
orphaned kittens, and then about a week later took
on a 4th! So at one time she had 7 kittens to care
for when only 3 of them were actually hers. Four of
the kittens actually made it and all have been
adopted (one hers and 3 step sons). I remember
seeing her so often extending her paw out to pull in
a kitten who had moved too far away from her. It was
cute to see her play with them when they got a
little more coordinated. I kept her in my bathroom
most of the time. When she did escape, she went
after my other cats. I’m not sure if that was her
nature or if she was “protecting” her kittens. She
is comfortable around people. She didn’t seem to
mind at all when people came over to see and handle
her babies. She liked to go nose to nose with me.
She is tolerant of being held.
Candy is about 2 years old and is hoping for a
new start in 2010. After all she’s been through, we
want her to find a loving owner who will take care
of her as well as she took care of her babies!

Posting: Miss Pretty
Pretty is a 1 to 3 yr. old Lilac Point Siamese
from Madison, IN. She is very outgoing and
talkative, and loves to be around her “humans”. She
is extremely affectionate and loves to curl up with
her foster Mom, but she also enjoys play time with
her son Boots. She is very inquisitive and
adventurous, so cat toys are the key to keeping her
busy! Pretty is looking for a home to call her own!

Posting: Boots
Boots is a 6-month old kitten who has so much
personality! He is very outgoing, and loves to
play ball with his Mom and sister. He would also do
well in a home with dogs, as he is not afraid of
anything! He enjoys his toy mice, his Wubba and his
scratching post. When he needs some down time, he
lounges in his cat bed and watches all of the birds
at the feeders. He loves being held, so if you’re
looking for a cuddler Boots is the kitten for you!

 Navajo:
Have you ever seen a more angelic face?
Attention all cat lovers who like their kitties to
be snuggly love-bugs who purr and purr! This
lovely 2 year old girl with tabby and white medium
long hair is just what you have been looking for!
Sadly, this little angel has had a difficult few
months. When she arrived as a stray kitty on October
21, 09 we found out that she was pregnant and in
need of medical attention. She lost her babies at
birth & had to have an emergency C-section. She is
spayed now, so she will never have to worry about
another risky pregnancy. Navajo has battled problems
with “goopy eyes” ever since coming back from foster
care but this is probably from the stress of being
in a small cage for so long. She is on medicine now
to deal with her eyes. Despite all this, Navajo is a
very sweet and affectionate girl. When I picked her
up, she immediately snuggled into my shoulder and
began purring loudly. I think she would have been
content to stay there all day. We know that if she
were in a home environment she would stay healthy
and be much happier! I swear she feels like an
Angora sweater—soft and fluffy. You couldn’t find a
more beautiful girl, although she isn’t the least
bit conceited about her looks. Don’t make Navajo
wait; come and adopt her now!

 Star:
"Happy is the home with at least one cat" - Italian
Proverb
Star would like to help make your home a happy one!
This mellow 2 year old girl was surrendered by
her owner after living with her all her life. The
reason given was allergies of the owner. Star has
been spayed, declawed in front & is reported to be
good with kids. Upon visiting Star in her cage, she
flipped over onto her back and began purring, in
anticipation of some belly rubs. She enjoyed my
scratching her ears and chin as well. You can see
that she is a very pretty tabby with light green
eyes. By the way, her tummy fur is a pretty golden
color. All the cattery staff loves Star and highly
recommends her to anyone who is looking for a great
pet. If you would like this lovely Star to come
grace your home, please come in for a visit!

 Itty:
One of the “Golden Girls” of HSHC
Itty arrived along with her sister Jazzy on October
18 because after 10 years of ownership, their
mistress was allergic to these cats. Now I won’t
go into the despair that an older pet feels when it
is surrendered, but Itty is understandably scared of
her current location. She is a black & white long
haired kitty with a very sweet disposition. She has
been spayed and front declawed. Sadly, our medical
staff found that both cats were infested with fleas.
When the girls first moved in, we had them in the
same cage thinking that they would find some comfort
in the other sister. It didn’t take long before we
discovered that this might not be the best
arrangement. Itty is NOT the alpha sister. She lets
Jazzy dominate the food bowl. Jazzy would pester
Itty mercilessly. So now we have the sisters in
separate quarters and they seem much happier. In a
house, the two girls could go to different rooms to
take a break, but a small cage only caused them
stress. If the sisters were adopted together into a
house or apartment, I am sure that they would settle
their differences. Because Itty is a senior girl she
qualifies for the PAWS program. I think Itty would
be the Betty White “Golden Girl”. Jazzy would be Bea
Arthur!
|
|
|
Jazzy:
She’s the other “Golden Girl”.
Jazzy arrived along with her sister Itty on October
18 because after 10 years of ownership, their
mistress was allergic to these cats. Now I won’t
go into the despair that an older pet feels when it
is surrendered, but Jazzy is understandably cranky
about this new development. Ten years old is a bit
late in life to have to start all over with a new
owner, but Jazzy knows that this is much better than
being dumped in the country. She is an attractive
Tortoiseshell cat who has been spayed and front
declawed. If we were comparing these sisters to the
“Golden Girls” Jazzy would be the Bea Arthur
character. She likes to be large and in charge. When
it came to sharing the food bowl with Itty, Jazzy
felt that she got to eat first. So after
noticing that Itty was getting on Jazzy’s nerves, we
gave them private cages. She has been much sunnier
in her attitude since then. She will never be “Miss
Mary Sunshine”, but this spunky gal has her own
unique charm. Like Itty, Jazzy would like to be
adopted together as long as they had plenty of room
for “alone time”. Although she doesn’t like to admit
it, she qualifies for the PAWS program.

 Herman:
The cat with the distinctive brow.
This venerable gentleman with the swooping arches
over his eyes arrived on October 6, somewhat
disoriented & rumpled from his foray of the world.
Grateful for the shelter and sustenance we provided,
Herman settled into his cage for a well deserved
rest. Unfortunately, like so many strays, he
developed a cold and spent a stretch of time in the
isolation ward. Our best guess is that he is about 7
years old and because he was already neutered when
we examined him, we know he lived with someone at
one time. Herman is a solid black DLH with golden
eyes and a very sweet temperament. Always a quiet
sort, upon greeting him in his cage Herman did not
make a sound but began “kneading” on his blanket. He
seemed to take pleasure in the attention I gave him,
but did not insist upon it. The cattery staff notes
that Herman is a gentle individual who would do very
well in a quiet home. He does
not want to be any trouble & he would be an
exemplary resident. An occasional caress and a kitty
treat every once in a while will make Herman very
content. If you are 55 or older you can adopt him
for a reduced fee. I think he would get a kick out
of watching the winter Olympics with you.

Trace:
On October 28, Trace became separated from his happy
home and ended up at our shelter. We know this
handsome boy had a family because he was neutered
and declawed in front. I interrupted his mid
afternoon meditation session, but he was fine with
answering a few questions. He is about 7 years old,
a golden tabby with hypnotic green eyes, and a very
mellow personality. He chalks it up to all the
meditation and yoga he practices. Even though his
family never came to claim him, Trace doesn’t let
this upset him. He knows that someone will be drawn
to his calm metaphysical energy & green aura & they
will offer to share their domicile with him. “OM”
If you other Flower Children are 55 years young
Trace can join your commune for a reduced cost.

 Long
John Silver – A kitty without a crew of his own!
Ahoy there maties…I’m on the look out for a new and
forever home…can I become part of your crew? I am an
8 month old boy who loves to cuddle with humans. I
am very friendly and outgoing and have never met a
stranger.
I am a very good boy and I can even get along with
dogs that won’t try to eat me. I am neutered, use my
litter box and I love to play games and play with
toys. Oh yeah, I’m currently in a foster home where
I sometimes get to play with a cute little Pit Bull.
He taught me something…in order to get a treat, I
have to “sit” and be a good kitty. I’m so glad he
taught me that little trick cause I really love
treats…the soft chewy kind are my favorite!
So I bet you are wondering how I got my name, aren’t
you? Well, you see, my toes and paw pads are
deformed and when I stand up straight, my legs look
like peg legs! Don’t worry, they don’t hurt or
bother me, but a nice kitty doctor did say there are
a couple of things to consider before giving me a
forever home. One thing the kitty doctor said is I
can’t be declawed. Whew…so glad she said that cause
I hear it’s pretty painful for most kitties, but she
said that because my toes aren’t shaped like normal
cat toes, removing my claws would be extra painful
for me. But you’ll be glad to know that I really
don’t use my claws that much anyway because I can’t
even retract several of them. Because I can’t
retract my claws though, you will want to trim the
tips at least monthly. The other thing the kitty
doctor said you need to think about is making sure I
don’t become overweight…too much pressure on the
tootsies could cause them to hurt a bit.
So how ‘bout it? Can I join your crew? I promise
there will be no mutiny and you won’t regret it!
Since I'm in a foster home, if you are interested in
meeting me, please contact our Animal Programs staff
at 317-774-1263 or via email at
animalprograms@hamiltonhumane.com
and we can set a time to meet!

Hendrix |
Larry |
“A Tale of Two Kitties”
On October 26, 09 Hendrix and his brother Larry were
surrendered to the HSHC due to the death of their
owner. When this happens often times the family
cannot keep the pets. Human beings are going through
their own grieving process. But research has shown
that animals form close bonds to their owners and
they grieve too. The following quote is from When
Cats Grieve, by Sarah Hartwell, 2004.
Sometimes a change in
routine is unavoidable when a human companion dies
and the cat has to be re-homed. Shelters and
adopters of such cats must be prepared for
behavioural changes. If the cats were sociable, the
surviving cats may search, cry out (yowl or
frequently miaow) or even pine. Other changes
include sleep pattern changes, loss of interest in
favourite activities, withdrawal ("sulking") or
conversely separation anxiety, depression and eating
pattern changes. Because stress hormones are
secreted, there may be physical effects include
stomach upsets, hair-loss (often through
over-grooming since grooming is a comforting
activity) and inappropriate toileting. These will
often be more severe than if the cat was able to
grieve in familiar surroundings. In addition to
bereavement, the cat is facing the additional stress
of a change of home, a change of human companions
and unfamiliar surroundings and scents. Don't expect
such a cat to be playful and companionable
immediately you adopt it. Be tolerant of toileting
accidents and if it wants to spend time alone, allow
it to do so, but keep a watchful eye on its eating
habits and physical appearance (e.g. self-neglect,
weight loss). Once it has accepted you as the new
caregiver, it may become clingy - having lost one
human in its life, it may not want to let you out of
its sight. If you are away from home during part of
the day, you could leave a recently worn tee-shirt
in the cat's bed as a comforter. Alternatively, it
may remain aloof to begin with as though afraid to
build up a new relationship so soon. Don't press
attention on an unwilling cat, but spend time in the
same room and talk to it (stroking it if possible)
so that it knows you are a permanent fixture in its
life. Encourage it to interact with you. The
settling-in process may take longer and be slower,
so be patient.
Larry, the grey & white boy, and his brother
Hendrix are both 3 years old and were never neutered
by their owner. Larry seems to be taking the loss a
bit harder than Hendrix. He is a bit “mad at the
world” right now, while Hendrix is still keeping a
friendly outlook on the situation. Now, both cats
realize that they may be split up and go to
different homes. I think that they are okay with
this as long as their new owners understand that
they are still in mourning. The brothers have not
exhibited the more severe side effects mentioned in
the quote, but they are still not themselves. They
are both still young cats and have many more years
of a happy life ahead of them. If you have ever lost
a loved one you can empathize with the empty spot in
their hearts. Please let Hendrix & Larry have a
happy ending to their sad story.

Sally
"A cat's behavior is a direct reflection of his
feelings."
–Carole Wilbourn
Back in April ’08 Sally came to us as a stray
kitten. She was adopted in August and lived with her
mistress for one year. But sadly on December 11,
09 she was surrendered back to the HSHC for
“behavior issues”. After we found that poor Sally
had blood in her urine and had a raging UTI, we got
her the medical treatment she needed. The first sign
that a cat may be sick is “urinating outside the
box”. If you have ever suffered through a UTI you
know that this is painful! Sally needs to have a
diet that helps control these infections. It doesn’t
help that Sally is also on the portly side. Since
she is only about 1 ½ years old, she needs to be
more active in order to slim down. She is a very
nice girl, a dilute Calico, declawed in front and
spayed. Sally enjoys holding conversations with
whoever happens to spend time with her. It’s a shame
that such a pretty & sweet kitty is in a shelter due
to a problem that can be easily treated with diet.
Cats really do let you know when they don’t feel
well. And they let you know when they are happy!
Help make Sally happy again and open your home to
her.

Boo:
Here is my favorite quote;
"Cats don't like change without their
consent." - Roger A. Caras
I am a 6 year old Tortoiseshell girl who has
lived with the same family all my life. I don’t
know why they named me Boo. I guess they thought
that my ½ orange ½ black face made me kind of a
spooky cat. I was actually born in November so I
guess they could just have easily called me Pilgrim.
Anyway, I have always been an easygoing gal, fine
with kids and other cats. But I began having a
little trouble making it to my litter box and my
family decided they didn’t want me anymore. This is
the first time I really wished that I spoke human.
Humans don’t seem to understand that we felines
DON’T LIKE CHANGE i.e.: a change in the location of
my box, a change of type or brand of litter, a new
member of the family, a rearrangement of furniture,
a change in my cat food or even a change in my
health. All of these things can cause a perfectly
normal, contented kitty to go bonkers. Unfortunately
if we try to communicate our displeasure in the
change by having a few “out of box” experiences, we
get sent to the shelter. I am used to living
in a home with windows and soft places to sleep and
plenty of room to stretch out. This place just
doesn’t compare. I was spayed long ago so I am more
than ready to move in with you at a moment’s notice.
If you are 55 or older, I qualify for the PAWS
program. So the only change I would like to have
right now is a change of residence!

Chips:
Where can a girl go to have some peace & quiet?
I don’t mean to complain, but since I started out
life here at the shelter as a kitten and now one
year later I find myself back again, I’m a little
peeved. I am 1 year 10 months old and I got
adopted in July of 08. Ask anyone here at the
shelter and they’ll tell you that I’m one sweet
kitty! I am very affectionate, love to butt heads
with you, enjoy vocalizing my love for you, already
spayed and I am easy-going. The one little problem
is that other pets, especially cats make me really
nervous! Case in point: I was having some litter box
issues at my house and my owner decided to surrender
me. I wish I could have told her that the other pets
were driving me crazy and unfortunately we cats
cannot express this any other way. Since being here
I have decided to just make the best of the
situation and wait patiently until someone sees my
picture and falls in love with my mix of grey tabby
and white markings and toffee colored eyes. I want
to be the only feline in your heart. I promise you
won’t regret it! By the way, feel free to change my
name to a more feminine one.

Tasha:
Have you ever heard of Tasha Tudor?
She was an author and illustrator of children’s and
nature books. She loved cats and dogs and all
things in nature. She was still working in her
garden and painting even when she was very old, by
human standards. I like to think that I am named for
her. I too am “aged to perfection” at approximately
10 years old. I found myself at the HSHC on October
25, 09 which was a very good thing. Being front
declawed, I was never meant to be a stray kitty. I
was very, very thin and I had an eye infection. But
I was so very grateful to be someplace warm, dry and
out of danger that I didn’t care. The good people
here took care of me, gave me medicine
and plenty of nourishing food. I have overheard the
people here say that I am a very sweet girl, well
past the kitten energy levels and content to be a
quiet companion. If you are 55 or older you probably
know who Tasha Tudor was. You can adopt me for a
reduced fee. Oh yes, I forgot. I am a Tortoiseshell
girl with light green eyes. I look forward to
meeting you.

On
February 7th, 2010 my brother and I found ourselves
being placed into a crate and brought to the Humane
Society for Hamilton County. Our owner had had
us for 2 months (since we were 5 months old) but
decided he could no longer keep us. He had found us
as abandoned kitties so it was kind of him to take
us in, in the first place. Because we are so young
and were already sick, the chances of getting sicker
while staying at the shelter were pretty high. So
the Animal Programs Team found us a very nice foster
momma where we could live until we were all better.
We have such a great room in which to play and hang
out! Here is what our Foster Momma has to say.
They are adorable and have an upper
respiratory infection. But once that is cleared up,
they will be going back to the Humane Society, as I
will not be keeping them. I would LOVE to find them
a home, while they are at my house, before they have
to go back! They are brother and sister, Ollie and
Lilly, & I was told they are about 7 1/2 months old.
They are sooooooo great! Ollie, the boy, is more
like a dog and he greets me at the door and comes to
me for attention. They are both so sweet and great
with my 2 young kids too! Please post, so I don't
have to take them back!!!
I think I am a very pretty girl. Unlike my brother I
am a brown & black Tabby and I have white legs, a
white chest, and a white chin! I’m so glad I have a
pink nose. Ollie’s greyer than and not quite as cute
as I am. (Don’t tell him I said that!) If you would
like to adopt me or maybe both of us (!) please
contact the Animal Programs Team at 774-1263 or
email
animalprograms@hamiltonhumane.com. Thank you!

Confetti:
You can't look at a sleeping cat and be tense.
-- Jane Pauley
I think this pretty much sums up MY philosophy of
life. I am a 4 year old lady cat and the folks
here call me Confetti, but that’s not my real name.
I’ve kind of forgotten my real name. The people who
had me spayed are the ones who named me first, but I
have no idea where they are. An Animal Control
Officer brought me to the HSHC on Christmas Eve, 09!
Whew—it was a relief to be out of the cold and given
a meal. But now the relief has worn off and I am
just tired of lying around with nothing to do. I am
a petite girl, but this inactivity has made me put
on weight! I really like this photo of me because it
shows off my aqua colored eyes and pretty Torbie
coat. How about that little stripe of orange down my
nose? Pretty cute huh? I am a very nice cat,
friendly and easy to get along with. But I long for
something to do, like explore under furniture, look
out of windows, jump up on high places and visit
with people! I am hoping that someone who is
currently tense will come and adopt me as their
totally organic, good-for-you tranquilizer. I may
become habit forming, but I have no harmful side
effects!

ZAZA
Happiness is like a cat, if you try to coax it or
call it, it will avoid you; it will never come. But
if you pay no attention to it and go about your
business, you'll find it rubbing against your legs
and jumping into your lap. --William John
Bennett
Zaza is a gorgeous Tortoiseshell girl about 7 years
old who was found roaming Noblesville on December
30, 09. I think you can tell by her very direct
stare that Ms Zaza will brook no fools. The one word
to describe this gal is “sassy”! She is quite happy
to have you pet her and she will talk to you to let
you know how happy you’ve made her. But when she’s
had enough, she’ll let you know that the visit is
over. Zaza was quite healthy when she first got to
the shelter, but not long after she began to have
“weepy” eyes and the accompanying upper respiratory
infection. She has had medical attention and is much
better now, but the sooner she can find her
permanent home the better her chances of staying
healthy. This independent girl is very happy to be
the only cat in your life; as a matter of fact she
really does not like other cats! Perhaps she doesn’t
know that she IS one. If you like your women with a
little sass and minds of their own, then Zaza is the
girl for you. She came to us already spayed so she
can come home with you today! She qualifies for the
PAWS program, so if you are 55 or more she can be
your pal for a reduced fee.

Rupert
Do I remind you of a famous Rupert? How about Rupert
Grint “Ron Weasley” from the Harry Potter films?
We are both red-heads, friendly and very fond of
attention. I don’t happen to be a wizard or I
would have waved my wand a long time ago and found
myself a new home! I am a 6 year old orange and
white tabby who was brought to the shelter on
November 19, 09. I
vaguely recall living with a human because I got
neutered a while ago. I am a very personable guy and
I thoroughly enjoy being petted and admired. I will
happily talk to you if you start a conversation.
Like Ron Weasley, I would be a
true and loyal friend to anyone who would like to
adopt me. I just need to find a human who loves
red-heads. The rumor is that orange cats are the
friendliest! I qualify for the PAWS program, so
please come and visit me. I can’t just wish myself
out of here!

Cullen
We think sometimes that poverty is only being
hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being
unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest
poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy
this kind of poverty. Mother Teresa
This handsome black DSH cat, who is 7 years
old, was picked up by an Animal Control Officer on
November 3, 09. He had already been neutered so
we can assume that someone cared for him at one
time. But being a black cat (or dog) can sometimes
make an animal invisible in every sense of the word.
People walk by a cat who has no bright colored fur
to attract attention. When Cullen arrived he was
healthy, but then after months of living in the
shelter he became sick. He’s better now, but look
into his lovely green eyes and there is some despair
at being confined in his cage. As Mother Teresa
said, the poverty of being unwanted, unloved and
uncared for is the greatest poverty. It is easy to
walk by Cullen’s cage and ignore his hopeful and
intent gaze, “Will this be the person who will take
me away from here?” Because he is 7, he qualifies
for the PAWS program. And because he is a quiet boy
who never makes any trouble, he is easy to overlook.
But he wants nothing more than to be wanted and
loved. Do you have room in your heart and home for
Cullen?

Brewer
"Unlike us, cats never outgrow their delight in
cat capacities, nor do they settle finally for
limitations. Cats, I think, live out their lives
fulfilling their expectations." Irving Townsend
I don’t think Brewer expected to be
surrendered to the Humane Society when he reached
the age of 11 years. But on January 23, that is
exactly what happened. This very handsome long
haired Tabby, who reminds me of a Maine Coon cat,
spent his entire life with his owner but due to
allergies had to come to the shelter. He was
neutered and declawed in front long ago. His owner
said that Brewer is easygoing with cats & dogs but
may be afraid of children. When I visited Brewer in
the cattery, he struck me as being a very sad boy.
He wouldn’t come up to the front of his cage like
most cats do. But even more surprising was that he
wouldn’t even look at me. He just stared down at the
floor of his cage as if he did not have much hope of
ever leaving its confines. I think if I had always
lived with a family and had windows to sit at and
people to sleep next to I would become very down
spirited too.
Imagine what Brewer must be thinking about the
noise, darkness and strange smells. I hope that
there will be someone who reads his story and feels
compelled to give Brewer a chance to live with a
family once more. He qualifies for the PAWS program
and would like nothing more than a peaceful place to
nap and dream of birds flying right outside his
window.

Cleveland:
"There are hundreds of good reasons for having a
cat, but all you need is one.” –Unknown
I would like to offer one good reason for
adopting me. I deserve to spend the rest of my
life in a home. I am 7 years old and I have been out
in the world fending for myself and experiencing all
kinds of scary situations. When you are an
unneutered male cat trying to live in the wild you
are bound to run into some shady characters that are
aching for a fight. I think that is how I contracted
this FIV disease. All it takes is one infected cat
to bite you while you are defending yourself and
then you can become infected too. For those of you
who are not familiar with FIV, it’s like HIV only in
cats. We can live perfectly healthy, long lives but
we need to be kept as indoor cats because we are
susceptible to other diseases. We can live with
people and dogs because FIV is not contagious
to anyone other than another cat.
It sure is rough being a stray cat—people ignore you
and other animals can pick on
you! I’m so lucky that on December 10, 09 a kind
person brought me to the HSHC. At least I’m out of
danger and have a warm bed and food to eat. But I
sure would like to give that whole “house cat” job a
try! I’ve heard that it’s nice to have a human being
care about you and give you scratches behind the
ears. Thanks for listening to me. If you know anyone
who’d like to give a guy a second chance, please
tell them about me.
